EduLinuxEduLinux is a Linux Distribution, developeded at Instituto de Informática Educativa in Universidad de La Frontera university and the Chilean Educational Ministry trought Centro de Tecnología y Educación. EduLinux is specially designed for computing labs of Enlaces Educational Network. The principal objective is to improve the perfomance of old computers labs, working in a client/server architecture.

The 2006 version of EduLinux has a simple installation process. It has a client administrator software speccially desingned to incorporate specific Enlaces network's computers and generic ones.

Working model

  • The server is the one who does all the work.
  • On the other side, there are clients (old computers) who are connected to the server using the local network.
  • Clients don't require operating system. They run applications from the server. They can start from the network, CD, diskette or the local hard drive.
  • Client's can work even if they don't have hard disc or CD-ROM.
  • Network is highly used, so it is better to use switchs instead hubs.

Minimal Requirements
The server:

  • CPU 1900 MHZ (Pentium IV or equivalent)
  • 40 GB, 7200 rpm hard disc
  • 250 MB RAM plus 80 MB for each client to connect

Clients:
