EduLinux is a Linux Distribution, developeded at Instituto de Informática Educativa in Universidad de La Frontera university and the Chilean Educational Ministry trought Centro de Tecnología y Educación. EduLinux is specially designed for computing labs of Enlaces Educational Network. The principal objective is to improve the perfomance of old computers labs, working in a client/server architecture.
The 2006 version of EduLinux has a simple installation process. It has a client administrator software speccially desingned to incorporate specific Enlaces network's computers and generic ones. Working model The server is the one who does all the work. On the other side, there are clients (old computers) who are connected to the server using the local network. Clients don't require operating system. They run applications from the server. They can start from the network, CD, diskette or the local hard drive. Client's can work even if they don't have hard disc or CD-ROM. Network is highly used, so it is better to use switchs instead hubs.
Minimal Requirements The server: CPU 1900 MHZ (Pentium IV or equivalent) 40 GB, 7200 rpm hard disc 250 MB RAM plus 80 MB for each client to connect
Clients: CPU Pentium I or higher 16 MB RAM 1 MB video network card diskette unit
